20 Of The Spookiest Halloween Events & Things To Do In Toronto

Fall is in full gear now and for many, that means getting to cross off your favourite activities from your bucket list. While some people love apple orchards and everything pumpkin spice, others are looking to get spooked. For those horror lovers, we’ve put together a list of the best Halloween events and things to do in Toronto and the GTA to get you into the spooky spirit!

From mazes to pub crawls, and even scary films releasing this month, we’ve got you covered.

1. Casa Loma Legends of Horror

There is truly no better venue than Toronto’s Gothic Revival mansion to host a scary Halloween event in Toronto.

An immersive theatrical interpretation of all of the classic horror figures leads visitors through a one hour, 2km self-guided walking tour starting in the lower gardens of Casa Loma and making its way through the castle’s tunnels and darkest spaces that have never been open to the public before.

Many visitors are impressed with the set designs as they capture exactly what you want from a Halloween experience: disturbing, scary, menacing, and terrifying. This is what Halloween is all about. 

Heads up- it can get crowded! Buy tickets ahead of time.

Cost: Early bird tickets are available from Sept. 28 – Oct. 16, 2018, and are $40 online and $45 at the door.

When: September 28th to October 31st at Casa Loma.

2. Halloween Haunt

Halloween Haunt is Canada’s number one fall event that claims to “terrorize your thoughts and infect your mind”, long after you leave. With many new additions this year, they promise a horrifying experience that will terrify you to the point of tears.

Canada’s largest haunted theme park features over 300 monsters, nine walk-through “maze” attractions, six uniquely themed atmospheric scare areas, and three live shows. During its operation, the grounds are completely transformed via decorative props, thematic music, and eerie lighting to further create its spooky atmosphere.

The new additions for 2018 include the “The Crypt” maze and the “Wicked Hollow” scare zone. The new show for 2018 is “Vampire Disco”. Don’t miss them!

Face your fears on the grounds of Canada’s Wonderland and experience your favourite rides at night and the frights awaiting you in the terrifying haunted attractions and shows.

3. Dark Waters at Ripley’s Aquarium 2018

Party among the sharks at Dark Waters, Ripley’s Aquarium on Friday, October 26, 2018. Enjoy signature cocktails while dancing to tunes that will be spun by DJ Shamz and DJ Cozmic Cat. Come dressed in a creative costume and enter the costume contest!

Cost: $30.00 and can be purchased online. Annual pass members save 50%.

When: Friday, October 26, 2018, from 8 PM to 12 AM.

4. Haunted High Park

Enter Toronto’s High Park after dark and discover the bone-chilling legends and ghost tales that have been spooking visitors for decades. Explore the Victorian funeral and mourning traditions inside the rooms of the Colborne Lodge. They also provide “Spooky” refreshments!

Each haunted walk will be lead by a Victorian Séance presented by Doc Wuthergloom of Eldritch Theatre.

Cost: $32.50.

When: October 13 – 28th.

Where: Colborne Lodge, 11 Colborne Lodge Drive, Toronto.

5. Aberrant Theatre Presents The Ghost Light Anthology

The Ghost Light Anthology is a theatrical collection of five tales with a focus on modern-day monsters. It’s an immersive “haunt” style experience. It’s essentially a summoning ritual so if you scare easily, this won’t be for you as it will leave you with nightmares for weeks after. The event will be held at The Box (89 Niagara Street), which is a historic building that operated as a coffin factory as recently the 1970’s!

“Toronto based Aberrant Theatre is making the most of that fact to unleash The Ghost Light Anthology – an utterly unique live horror experience, just in time for Halloween.”

The Ghost Light Anthology event is set to become Toronto’s newest Halloween tradition.

Cost: Tickets are $15, $25, $35 and $50. All seating is General Admission. The Box is located at 89 Niagara Street. Ticket information can be found here.

When: Oct. 18-31, 2018 at 8 PM. The closing performance is on Halloween night.

6. GRIMM Grounds

Last year they were closed, and now they’re back in action.

Grimm Grounds is a privately owned and custom made large linear horror maze with theatrical lighting, incredible sound, realistic props, sets, and even actors ready to jump out at you at any moment.

As you make your way deeper into the maze, visitors have said that the nightmare creatures get bigger and more horrifying with scare actor’s hiding in the most well-hidden hiding spot’s imaginable.

Grimm Grounds has been praised for it’s ”impressive medieval/French revolution demon theme” and it’s terrifying effects, props, and scares.

Cost: Admission to the maze is $7 at night and $5 during the day (for people that can’t handle the maze at night).

When: They’ll be open from October 27th-31st.

The Haunted Walk – Toronto Tours

7. The Original Haunted Walk of Toronto with Mackenzie House Experience

This is the small-group version of the Original Haunted Walk that will conclude with a visit inside one of Toronto’s most famously haunted buildings, the Mackenzie House. Their website says it’s a 4/5 scare factor! 

Cost: Adults $29.75, Youth (up to 17) $26.75.

Duration: 1 hr 45 minutes.

Where: Departure location is the Hockey Hall of Fame, 30 Yonge Street at the Spirit of Hockey entrance

8. The Haunted Walk Experience at Black Creek Pioneer Village 

This is another small-group late-night version of the tour at Black Creek and will include an extended visit with more time to explore, a few fun challenges and will feature extra buildings and spooky tales.

This is a 5/5 scare factor!

Cost: Adults $29.75, Youth (up to 17) $29.75. 

Duration: 1 hr 45 minutes.

Where: Departure location is Black Creek Pioneer Village, 1000 Murray Ross Pkwy, North York.

9. The Séance at Black Creek

We’re a little hesitant to tell you about this one considering the scare factor. In fact, some visitors have begged to leave.

After two years of sold-out performances and countless nightmares, mindreader Jaymes White and The Haunted Walk host The Séance at Toronto’s Black Creek Pioneer Village. Guests will experience undeniable terror at a Victorian-style séance inside one of the oldest and most haunted buildings in the city. The Séance experience consists of several different methods that were used to try to contact the dead and will include sitting, standing, and walking at various times throughout the experience.

Jaymes White has been practicing Mindreading for over two decades and has sold out a variety of performances across Canada. Jaymes was the former host of the TV show Mind Games and also trains law enforcement and people in sensitive areas on observation, memory and handwriting analysis. The Séance experience sells out in a flash for good reason.

This soul-shaking psychological experience is not for the weak and they even advise people that have health conditions not to come. The event is 18+ with a scare factor of 5/5! You’ve been warned.

10. Bingemans Screampark

If you’re down for a drive and able to gather your courage before entering a terrifying trek through nine “testing sites”, this one is for you.  The Preparation Penitentiary, The Dietary, and Quarantine Zone are just some of the stops you’ll be taking through the spooky event!

Cost: $39.95.

When: Sept 28 to Oct 14 – 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM.

Oct 18, 21, 23-25, 28 – 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM.

Oct 19, 20, 26, 27 – 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM.

11. Tdotclub Halloween Boat Party 2018

Try something different this year and join the Empress of Canada to have a unique experience like no other. With multiple cash bars, a live DJ, and music on three enclosed and heated yacht’s decks, this event offers a unique and exciting experience for you in Toronto this Halloween.

12. Halloween (Film)

If you’re more of a movie person, there’s a terrifying one coming out this month.

The eleventh installment in the Halloween franchise, and a sequel to the 1978 film, Halloween is releasing soon. Set forty years after the original film, the plot follows Laurie Strode, who’s prepared to face Michael Myers in a FINAL showdown forty years after escaping his previous killing spree on Halloween night. Be warned: The Halloween movies are not for the weak-stomached. 

When: The release date is October 19, 2018.

13. Venom (Film)

We won’t give too much away here but if you’re not looking for a real scare, Venom has the Halloween vibes y0u might be looking for.

Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie’s body merges with the alien Venom, leaving him with superhuman strength and power.
