Kibii Weekly Pick: Close Encounters – The Cinema of Steven Spielberg

For the last few Kibii Weekly Picks we’ve featured our favourite spots for food and drink, however this weekly pick will be different. We’ve chosen an exhibition being held by The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) called Close Encounters: The Cinema of Steven Spielberg. TIFF is well known festival that runs every fall, however, the establishment offers so much more. They have year-round screenings, talks, exhibitions, and parties.

If you are looking for something to do throughout the Christmas break, this event is a great way to spend time revisiting some of the American cinema’s most inventive and classic masterpieces.  

Close Encounter is a series that features screenings of all of Steven Spielberg’s most popular films, including the films he has written, directed, and produced. This series will be running from December 21st to January 10th.

Steven Spielberg will be receiving his first TIFF Cinematheque retrospective.

The main purpose for this event is to honour and showcase the groundbreaking and influential legacy of Steven Spielberg and his contribution to the history of cinema.

Some of the main cinematic highlights that will be featured throughout the duration of Close Encounters series will be Jaws, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Saving Private Ryan, to name a few.

The showtimes for the featured films consists primarily of noon to evening showing and will be range between 12:30 PM to 10:00 PM.

How much are tickets for Close Encounters?

Adult – $14.00

Senior – $11.50

Student – $11.50

Child/Youth – $10.00

Where will the films be screened?

All films for Close Encounters will be screened at the TIFF Bell Lightbox which is located in Reitman Square at 350 King Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M5V 3X5.
