Hey everybody, for this week’s Kibii Weekly Pick we have another great option on King St, and this time it’s a great bar we love, the Underground Garage! This is a casual bar located on King St West and although there are many places similar to the Underground Garage, none of them truly match the character, vibe, and overall décor of this place.
It all started in the basement of 365 King West, and has transformed into a 5 level establishment equipped with bars, a restaurant, and a rooftop lounge. There aren’t many dive bars in Toronto that embody all of the characteristics that the Underground Garage has. This fun, quirky, unique venue, has everything needed to be a Kibii Weekly Pick.
2nd Floor Underground Garage
The second floor of Underground Garage is the main room where the drinking and dancing occurs. It’s here where the live band or DJ is showcased and patrons can enjoy their night drinking, dancing, or mingling amongst other patrons. The main crowd at Underground Garage is mostly young professionals and students, giving the venue a real high-energy environment.
The dress code of the Underground Garage is very casual with no regulations being implemented on what you can wear. The young crowd is a mix of students and professionals so you can wear jeans and a t-shirt or business casual work clothes without feeling like you stand out.
The Underground Garage is open 7 days a week, ensuring that it caters to all crowds from the run-of-the-mill weekend partygoers or the industry folks who party on the off nights. This venue is super welcoming with great staff, ensuring that on any given night, you will see people from different walks of life.
The décor of this venue is very unique in comparison to other places on King West. The look in the Underground Garage has a trashy aesthetic feel to it. With old braziers hanging from the ceiling, old Christmas lights lining the tops of the bars, and an old disco ball in the middle of the dance floor, this venue has an incredibly distinct look to it.
5th Floor Undergrub Garage Restaurant
You might be asking yourself, “How does the restaurant look compared to the 2nd floor”? Contrary to the second floor and main room, the restaurant portion of the Underground Garage located on the 5th floor of the venue has a much different tone to it then the other floors. The restaurant portion referred to as the “Undergrub Garage” has a much cleaner and upscale look to it. Although there are still Christmas lights lining the ceiling, the look in the restaurant is more reminiscent of a local sports bar, with images of musical acts like Elvis, musical instruments and vinyl records lining its walls.
