A New Experience For Customers

Retailers have increasingly put the customer experience on their radars as they connect with their customers in more meaningful ways. Take a look at Lululemon which hosts yoga classes, runs events, and experiences to bring people into the stores and cultivate a sense of community. Malls are becoming more multi-purpose. Newmarket is full of a lot of young professionals and families that want access to trendier shopping experiences and premium foods, similar to those of Toronto, but they want it close to home. Food builds community and Newmarket is looking to engage with the local community in new ways, providing unique experiences right in their own backyard so they don’t have to travel south to experience trendy scenes.

Market & Co. is the third food market announcement that Oxford Properties has made over the past four months. In March, it announced one in Quebec City and last month, they announced that it would be creating a ‘Food District’ at its massive Square One property in Mississauga. These will open in 2019, which means that the Upper Canada Market & Co. will be a first. Other shopping centers have expressed plans of opening food markets in their space as well. It’s clear that Market & Co. is paving the way for enriching food experiences, bringing unique offerings to the suburbs.

Upper Canada invested $60 million into this redevelopment and expansion of the Target store that used to occupy this space. In fact, Sport Chek has relocated its Upper Canada store into a beautiful 65,000 square foot space adjacent to the new Market & Co., making it one of Sport Chek’s largest stores in Canada when it opens. Located at 17600 Yonge St. in Newmarket, this Market & Co. will not disappoint. In fact, many visitors are traveling far and wide to experience the new culinary offerings, and it has proven to be worth the drive for many people after just one week of operation.
