Here’s What You Missed At The Ryerson Startup Open House

Last Thursday, we had the chance to meet many amazing people; adventure-seekers, goal-crushers, and life-enthusiasts alike.

Seven startups gathered in the main lobby of the Ryerson Student Learning Centre, where we opened our doors to the public so they could meet the CEOs and founders behind these companies. Here’s the list of innovative startups that were stationed at the Startup Open House just last week:

These startups opened their doors and shared their stories. From mobile apps to women’s garments, the community had a chance to ask the startups anything they wanted. The Toronto startup scene is fueling innovation and pushing the limits of what’s possible and we’re very excited to be a part of the conversation.

Shopify’s Satish Kanwar, VP and GM Channels says, “The Canadian startup ecosystem continues to grow at an exceptional rate. I’m proud to have an event like Startup Open House here to help the public learn more about this thriving space and discover new opportunities.”

What we’re all about

The Kibii app helps people live more meaningful and enriching lives by not only discovering things to do, but opening the doors to new opportunities and endless possibilities.

Our mission is to encourage people to live more meaningful lives of enriching experiences. Built for discoverability, Kibii helps users find the most exciting things to do near them and around the world. The app combines the most interesting dining experiences with unique modern-day activities so users can live the life they’ve always imagined.

Why does it matter?

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt

Discovering and trying new things is constant self-challenge. It keeps you humble and opens doors to new ideas and beliefs you currently hold. When you experience new things, you open the door to a world of possibilities and develop new perspectives and understanding. Most importantly, living a life of rich experiences amounts to a life well spent. With our dependence on technology reaching an all-time high, we are more isolated than ever as we lose touch with what really matters.

We love your feedback

So far, our community has provided us with great insight and we continue to ask for feedback. If you have questions or comments, send us a note at [email protected]

The past event was a game-changer. It provided us with insight on what our users want and how they use technology in their everyday lives to find meaningful experiences.

Our Director of Business Development, Pedro Pessoa advocates for face-to-face engagement with users, “For a company not to engage with their community is like a spouse not to engage with their significant other.” He says, “When things don’t work out, you can attribute it to the lack of communication. We’re a very social team of tech-loving enthusiasts so we love getting into the field to ask our users what their real pain points are. It’s fun for us to meet our users and get that face-to-face interaction we so desperately lack in our world today.”

He continues, “Beyond that, we’ve built something amazing and powerful and we NEED others to enjoy it.”

Standing alongside other movers and shakers of the startup community to showcase what we’re all about was an unforgettable experience where we were able to connect with a new audience and to spark new opportunities and ideas.
